Specific common injuries

SPECIFIC COMMON INJURIES
• Ankle sprain
• Arch & Heal pain
• Finger dislocation
• Hamstring strain
• Ligament /Joint sprain
• Shin pain/Shin splits
• Swimmers ear
• Tendinitis
• Tooth dislocation

ANKLE SPRAIN
Symptoms

  • Sharp pain in the ankle region, usually on the outside of the
    ankle.
  • Usually occurs from turning or twisting the ankle on an uneven
    surface or by stepping on an Individual’s foot.
  • Swelling and discoloration to the ankle region is common.

IMMIDIATE ADDRESS DURING ACUTE PHASE

  • Ice should be applied to ankle region and secured with an elastic
    wrap.
  • Ice should remain on for 15-20 minutes while ankle is elevated.
  • Icing should be done 3-5 times per day until inflammation and
    pain subside.

PRE-PARTICIPATION PRECAUTIONS

  • Ankle braces such as canvas lace-up braces, air casts, or gel
    casts are beneficial in prevention of further injury.
  • Proper warm up including ankle rotation and calf stretching is
    helpful and may prevent further injury.
